Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Reviews
A.A. is a fellowship of men and women who come together to share their experiences and to help one another keep alcohol out of their lives. A.A. members all share a desire to stop drinking and this is the bond that unites them. There are no dues or fees required for A.A. membership, the organization is self-sustaining. Current estimates are there are over 2,000,000 acive members in 100,000 groups worldwide. 35% of members are women.
The organization was started in 1935 by a New York stockbroker and an Ohio surgeon who were both hopeless drunks. A.A. protects the anonymity of its members and focuses on promoting the program itself. The program is founded on abstinece; members stay away from alcohol one day at a time. The famous twelve steps to sobriety (http://www.aa.org/bigbookonline/en_tableofcnt.cfm) are also used as a guideline for members.
Alcoholism can affect anyone and if you're in need, A.A. can work for you. Everyone at a meeting is considering equal by virtue of being there for the same purpose. If you think you may have a problem with Alcohol you owe it to yourself and those who love you to explore all your options.
